The reason why I consider him my friend is that the teachings from his book were remarkably helpful to me as a young mother living in Romania in the year 1999. After reading Biddulph\u2019s book, \u201cRaising boys\u201d, it helped me have a better understanding of the growing stages young boys go through.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>First stage<\/strong> = Birth to 6 years old<\/span><br \/>\n <span style=\"color: #000000;\">This is the stage during which, boys need a lot of love in order to learn to love.<\/span>\u00a0At this point in a boy&#8217;s life<span style=\"color: #000000;\">, the presence of a\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">motherly figure is crucial<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0Likewise<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">,<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0the father could sometimes have over this role.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>SECOND STAGE<\/strong> = 6 to\u00a014 years old<\/span><br \/>\n <span style=\"color: #000000;\">At this stage, boys, influenced by their internal drives, want to become men. This is the moment when the\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">fatherly presence takes point<\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">.<\/span><br \/>\n <span style=\"color: #000000;\">The father should communicate with his son about his future from both a professional and personal point of view. The father should tell\u00a0stories about his own\u00a0childhood without forgetting to mention the less joyful situations. Recounting bad memories helps the son to understand that\u00a0life is not perfect and\u00a0to relate to his father&#8217;s past experiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #008000;\"><strong>THIRD STAGE<\/strong> = 14 years old to adulthood<\/span><br \/>\n <span style=\"color: #000000;\">At this stage, the adolescent needs the presence of male mentors in his life, in order to complete his journey toward manhood.<\/span><br \/>\n <span style=\"color: #000000;\">The role of the parents at this point is not as important as during the childhood stages, therefore they should find <\/span><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Male Mentors<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\"> for their son. It is preferable\u00a0that the mentors be\u00a0friends of the family because this way they will share the same moral views as the parents.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<pre><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Why will the adolescent listen to male mentors? Because they will treat the teen as a future adult, while the parents, no matter the age of the son, will still see him as a child.<\/span><\/pre>\n<p><em><strong><span style=\"color: #008000;\">\u201cA sixteen year old will not always listen to his parents-his inclination is not to. But a MENTOR is different. <br \/>\n <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">This is the time for the youngster to make his\u00a0\u201cGLORIOUS MISTAKES\u201d, and part of the mentor\u2019s job is to make sure the mistakes are not fatal<\/span>.\u201d<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>I believe that finding good mentors and trusting them to guide your son with virtuous values is a very hard task.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Publisher: Celestial Arts, 2004<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Steve Biddulph is my Australian friend that I have not yet met.
