\nI am made of memories.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n– Speak, then.
\n<\/span>I almost refuse. But the ache for him is stronger than my anger.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n I want to speak of something not dead or divine.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n I want him to live.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

At first it is strange. I am used to keeping him from her, to hoarding him for myself.\u00a0<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n But the memories well up like springwater, faster than I can hold them back. They do not come as words, but like dreams, rising as scent from the rain-wet earth.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\n His eyes, solemn as an owl lesson.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n This and this and this.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n So many moments of happiness, crowding forward.<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

She closes her eyes. She listens, and she too remembers.<\/span>
\nShe remembers feeling the child within her, luminous in the dark of her womb.<\/span>
\nShe repeats to herself the prophecy that the three old women spoke to her: <<your son will be greater that his father.>>”<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

I conjure the boy I knew.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n Achilles, grinning as the figs blur in his hands.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n His green eyes laughing into mine.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n– Catch, he says.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n Achilles, outlined against the sky, hanging from a branch over the river.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n The thick warmth of his sleepy breath against my ear.<\/em><\/span><\/strong>
\n– If you have to go, I will go with you.
\nMy fears forgotten in the golden harbour of his arms.”<\/em><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

ACHILLES<\/span>, it reads. And beside it, PATROCLUS<\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

– Go, she says. He waits for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the darkness, two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk.<\/span><\/strong><\/em>
