\"\"<\/a>When I discovered the writer Wendy Walker, I became instantly addicted to her words.<\/p>\n

Her stories keep me breathless while reading them.<\/p>\n

I am overwhelmed by the depth with which she’s explaining us, the readers, her characters and the relationships between them.<\/p>\n

Fortunately for me, Wendy Walker wrote quite a lot of novels, which will keep me busy for some time.<\/p>\n

“One day Rosie and I came inside undetected.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

<<- I don’t know… She was just born that way.
\nBorn with fists for hands.<\/span><\/strong>
\nIt’s hard to love a girl like that.>><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

I’ve never forgotten it, that expression.<\/span><\/strong><\/em>
\nFists for hands.<\/span><\/strong><\/em>
\nOr the conclusion she’d come to about my fate.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Rosie pulled me away, back outside, where we were free and easy. She made a joke about it, about how our mother was always wrong about everything, anyway.<\/span><\/strong><\/em>
\nRosie was trying to protect me from words that should have been hurtful, but all I remember feeling was a sense of pride that our mother had bother to see me at all.<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

I had always felt invisible to her.”<\/span><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

“I don’t need a man.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The only trouble is that after years of wondering why it was so hard for me to find one, I finally had done just that–found a man who loved me.<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

He didn’t stay long, but while he was there, he unlocked the door to a well of needs.
\nAnd there were so many of them.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nThe need to be held and touched.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nThe need to laugh and cry and search another’s soul.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nThe need to be seen.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nTo be known.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nNot the fierce and fearless warrior who conquered the world, but the little girl tugging on a sleeve or the hem of a coat, looking up.<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\nAlways, always looking up with foolish hope that someone would look back and be happy to see me there.”<\/strong><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
